Dead Set [NON-U.S.A. FORMAT: PAL Region 2 U.K. Import DVD]

Product Description

[NON-U.S. FORMAT (PAL) Region 2 U.K. Import - This will not play on U.S./Canada DVD players or those from most other countries outside of Europe. You would need a "multi-region" or "region-free" PAL compatible DVD player or computer.] BIG BROTHER gets a NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD makeover in horror spin-off DEAD SET. The action takes place during a fictional series of the reality TV show, with stories unfolding both on camera in the 'house' and with the staff behind the scenes. When a zombie outbreak occurs the contestants are blissfully unaware inside their secure little bubble, a bubble which soon becomes a fortress when outsiders seek refuge from the walking undead. Inevitably, the infection spreads into the 'house', turning the popularity contest into a scene of carnage, with cast and crew uniting to escape the ultimate 'eviction'.

Jaime Winstone (KIDULTHOOD) stars as production-runner in peril Kelly, with Andy Nyman (SEVERENCE) as hotheaded producer Patrick, Kevin Eldon (HYPERDRIVE) as a disgruntled housemate, and even a surprise appearance from Davina herself. The innovative show is the creation of writer and cult television satirist Charlie Brooker (SCREENWIPE, NATHAN BARLEY) so be prepared for some dark humour, as pop-culture turns zombie and feeds on its own kind.

I will never understand the U.S. dvd market. The U.K. has the best releases, whether it is Laurel and Hardy, Creepshow, The Hammer Films, Psycho, etc. There has been so many things not released, or half assed by the studios I had to purchase a region free dvd player just to get the films and sets I wanted. Dead Set is a great zombie mini series. Running time is 2 1/2 hours long, though it could have really been fleshed out even more. The short form of the story has the contestants of the Big Brother reality show locked away in their house while the world falls into chaos very quickly as the dead begin to rise. By the time the contestants realize what is going on, it is too late. They are trapped while the world falls down around them. Terrific British zombie tale and hopefully since it was mentioned in EW by Stephen King, it may get enough buzz to get it released over here. Decent zombie makeup and good gore. Camera is very quick when the zombies attack, and the zombies are... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good UK entry, November 17, 2009

While we in the US load up on VH1 celebreality, the Brits make a great zombie mini series. Once again, corporate America complains about the internet, yet they don't make it available in the US. If you liked Dawn Of The Dead 2004/28 days etc, you should "seek" this one out. Very enjoyable story of an outbreak on the set of Big Brother.

5.0 out of 5 stars Please Bring Dead Set to the US!!!!, November 16, 2009

This isn't a review so I apologize in advance however; this is a plead to bring this title to the US because it is easily one of the most underrated zombie films of the decade...
